Newmarket
1.50 6f Class 2 Handicap – Green Power 6/1
Has been a temperamental horse in the past but shown plenty of ability when in the mood, he won a good 3yo class 2 race off a lb higher at Ascot last season and then followed up with another big run against his elders over the same C&D with a close 5th off a 3lb rise to again prove his ability, he closed the season with 2 bad runs showing his Mr Hyde side which prompted a gelding operation. He returned this season after a 177 day break in a strong looking class 3 off top weight, he travelled strongly through the race and seen out it out well with just ¾ of length behind a race fit winner Foolaad, he’ll not only come on for that run but eye catching booking of Ryan Moore who not only rides the gelding for the first time but will be the first ever time his ridden for trainer John Gallagher which is very significant and a sign of intent. Another big plus is the distinct lack of pace in the race, I’m quite sure connections would say they would of liked a lower draw but with the lack of speed, he should get to the front easily and with excellent judge of ground Ryan can choose what he thinks the fastest part of the track and operate as he wishes with hopefully an easy lead to boot.
2.25 7f Listed Free Handicap – Azano 7/4
John Gosden’s yard has been flying this season and has already notched up 25 winners from 77 runs, an impressive 32% strike rate, and a huge 66% win and place strike rate, they have an impressive +£105 level stake profit at the course, so worth backing them blind at their local course, they book Frankie Dettori who share a notorious partnership and had a cool 30% strike rate last season, Frankie himself is fine form with a 40% strike rate this season. Today they team up on colt Azano whose been targeted for this race for some time and has been working and training well for top trainer, he bolted up on his 2nd outing last season under Robert Havlin and went for a shot at the group 3 Horris Hill at Newbury where he improved well and looked to have the race wrapped up making all but headed late on by Mohaather whose boosted the form when winning a strong group 3 Greenham stakes earlier this month and a couple in behind also winning NTO, his mark of 104 looks very exposable and receives good weight from his nearest market threats.
3.35 7f Group 3 Fillies Nell Gwyn – Angels Hideaway 9/2
Another from the flying John Gosden yard, so much of what was said previously with this time Robert Havlin onboard who not only rides her at home but gets the best out of the filly with 2 wins on her back and a record of 31182, the 8th in the group 1 Cheveley Park stakes, he also has a great relationship with boss John Gosden and teamed up with a 29% strike rate last season. When last seen she was a unlucky 2nd on her first try at 7f over this course in a group 3 and she certainly impressed under a 3lb penalty, for sure the best filly in the race and has been aimed for this. She loses her 3lb penalty this season which will be a huge plus and looks to have the most scope of these fillies.
